My name is Amity and I am a doula in Worcester Park, serving the Surrey and SW London areas. I trained with Nurturing Birth in May 2010 and am a recognised birth and postnatal doula with Doula UK. I provide antenatal, birth and postnatal support for you (and your family) as you prepare for, welcome and learn to care for your new baby.
Studies show that having a doula present at your birth and in the postnatal period has a number of benefits, including:
- Reduction in the length of labour
- Half the chance of a caesarean section
- Less likely to need narcotic pain killers or epidural anaesthesia
- Less likely to have an instrumental (forceps or vacuum) delivery
- More likely to rate the birth as positive or satisfactory
- Increased rate of successful breastfeeding
- Decreased likelihood of developing Post-Natal Depression
